About the Position:


This role will be responsible for the creation and development of solution foralternatives to traditional utility system upgrades. This would include development of innovative strategies for energy efficiency, demand response, micro-grids, distributed generation, energy storage, alternative fuel vehicles and connected homes that aligned with overall customer and corporate strategies. The positions will also coordinating the technical benefits from the creation of non-wires alternative and evaluate the usefulness of alternatives. This work may include the evaluation of proposals and the ability to advise and direct bidders on solution and coordinate solution alongside other department within the company including planning department.


Qualifications

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):



  • Create solutions that can be pilot projects testing new utility business models, new technologies, new communication protocols, etc.

  • Analyse key themes for demonstration/pilot projects relating to technology innovation in order to identify how different scenarios may affect various aspects of the business, especially our relationship with customers.

  • Build and nurture relationships with industry peers and other external industry influencers to keep abreast of technical innovations and their potential benefits.

  • Communicate progress and status of projects to key stakeholders with regular cadence.

  • Champion innovation through the learnings derived from demonstration projects, in partnership with business, customer partners, and service providers in order to test their validity across the business.

  • Supporting smart communicating technology platforms, design, internal IT integrations, external vendor technology integrations, customer-facing technologies (may be 3rd party), and company owned gas and electric meter integrations in the following areas: Demand Response (Residential, C&I, & Industrial), R&D Demonstration projects, Grid Modernization projects for all jurisdictions.

  • Challenge existing processes and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies and develop demonstration designs that will allow for future revenue opportunities across the business.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop evaluation plans and methodologies, review evaluation plans, and provide input on results that will support the evaluation of new technologies for our customer facing (demand response, energy efficiency and renewable) programs across all jurisdictions.

  • Participate in regulatory filing activities including filing development and responding to information requests.


Knowledge & Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a self-starter, creative and able to lead project teams

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering is required. Advanced Degree preferred

  • PE licence is desired

  • 5-10 years of experience in associated fields required

  • Understanding of demand response and price response programs, wholesale and retail markets for energy, capacity, and renewable energy certificates is desirable.

  • Must have a conceptual understanding of renewable generations, industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes and be willing to work with subject-matter experts when necessary.

  • Ability to learn how to draft contracts, filings, and RFPs; interfacing with National Grid rates, legal and other departments.


Have knowledge of project management or support for technology projects including but not limited to: SOW creation, procurement of vendors, design, budget oversight, marketing support, testing, permitting, construction management, implementation, data management/data transfer process, issue resolution, program transfer and closeout of project is desired.



  • Ability to gain knowledge of how both residential and business customers utilize energy and the technologies/techniques available to help them manage and control their energy use.

  • Possess valid driver's license with safe driving record.

  • Ability to work off-hours and must be willing to travel outside the division for storm related assignments.

  • Strong computer skills including the following: IE, Adobe, Lync, Outlook and office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and access)
