PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications (MarComm), and in collaboration with the Vice President of External Relations and Institutional Advancement, the Senior Communications Manager directs the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive, multi-faceted, College-wide communications plan . This pivotal role provides strategic direction to maximize regional and national media coverage to increase awareness and national reputation of Scripps College and increase philanthropic support to the College. The manager provides direct leadership of the advancement writer and writer/editor and serves as the primary contact for all media/press inquiries for the College.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND

Provides strategic development of regional and national media coverage plan to promote the College's leadership, faculty, students, and alums to increase awareness of and increase or maintain national reputation of the College. Provides strategic development of College's editorial communications that highlight and promote Scripps College's strengths, in alignment with College and division priorities, to increase engagement among prospective students, constituents, and donors. Develops the annual goals and metrics for evaluating the success of external communications and efforts of team members in accordance with the division's strategic plan and goals. Assesses, evaluates, and reports on communication and media efforts and provides strategic direction to meet or exceed goals. Provides strategic direction and direct supervision to advancement writer and writer/editor, leading efforts of external, Collegewide communications through a range of print and digital channels, including website, email, and social media . Advises AVP on trends in higher education and USNWR ranking methodology and its effect on College's reputation. In collaboration with the AVP of MarComm and Vice President of ERIA, drafts executive communications and provides counsel on crisis communications. Serves as a key advisor to the Vice President of ERIA on College crisis management and emergency management. Provides guidance and advice to the Vice President on significant public relations issues. Coordinates and maintains College emergency communications plans. Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Superior leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, outstanding writing and copyediting skills, and strong analytical skills. Ability to independently identify and analyze opportunities and resolve issues as they arise, keeping AVP apprised. Ability to independently prioritize responsibilities and competing requests for services for direct reports. Excellent computer skills, including MS Office. Knowledge of Photoshop and WordPress is a plus. Experience with Meltwater, Cision, TrendKite, or other media content database systems is a plus. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
EDUCATION &
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English/humanities, business/marketing, media relations or related field, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job. Experience with media relations, metrics, and public relations is required.Experience with media monitoring platform is preferred.LICENSES / CERTIFICATES:

$90,000-$103,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
