Position Description At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director, Engineering to join the Pass & Seymour Team in Syracuse, NY.
Legrand is seeking a results' driven Senior Director of Engineering to lead engineering product development and enhancement efforts in support of the defined market and category strategies to drive growth of the Pass & Seymour business.
This position will also support IoT technical strategy and execution within the residential, commercial, and industrial business segments as well as digital transformation of legacy products.
The Senior Director will provide insights and direction into emerging technologies to stay on the cutting edge of design and development.
This position reports directly to the General Manager and will have a key role in determining and executing a winning business model for one of the largest business units within Legrand.
What Will You Do? Act as a key member of leadership team, help determine and implement business strategy, and drive an innovative and customer focused culture.
Provide technical guidance, leadership, and direction to innovate new market solutions/products and enhancements while working closely with internal and external customers.
Ensure all product development projects are effectively managed to successfully accomplish schedule, budget, and product performance goals.
Ensure alignment with executive level stakeholders spanning multiple functions (Engineering, Product Line Management, Software Development, and technical Partners) Create, implement, and own best practice engineering and software development vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to improve business performance.
Collaborate across design, engineering, software development, product development, customer service, sales & marketing to align product roadmap, prioritize tasks, and remove roadblocks.
Plan and manage internal resource capacity and develop and manage new external resources to expand capacity as needed.
Plan, forecast and manage multimillion dollar R&D headcount, expense, and capital budgets.
Oversee execution of IoT product development and guide the technology strategy.
Manage connected products cybersecurity and ISO27001 certification, Manage Intellectual Property portfolio and serve as business representative in intellectual property litigation.
Ensure effective communication and cooperation between groups including Design, Test Lab, Marketing, Domestic and Overseas Manufacturing Plants, Suppliers, Subsidiaries, and third-party agencies.
Drive continuous design improvements and VAVE efforts to improve customer satisfaction, reduce product cost, improves product manufacturability, and ensure a resilient supply chain.
Represent company at industry technical meetings, regulatory agency activities, and legal proceedings as required.
Develop, train, motivate, and hire technical staff.
Set goals and provide performance feedback per Legrand performance management process.
Manage promotional and salary recommendations, coaching and developing talent.
Manage people, resources, and staffing levels to ensure that objectives are met, and maximum throughput is achieved.
Promote and foster a positive group culture in alignment with Legrand values, engineering's core values, and the long-range business plan.
Meet corporate social responsibility objectives.
Drive product and packaging sustainability initiatives.
Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications Education:
B.
S.
degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
Masters in Engineering or MBA preferred.
Experience:
15
years' experience in an engineering R&D organization and adopting new technologies.
5 years successfully leading and managing others.
Strong understanding of IoT, connected products, and software development process.
Ability to travel in the U.
S.
and globally as needed, 25% or less.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Strong knowledge of engineering principles, high volume manufacturing processes, mechanical, electrical, firmware, mobile app, and cloud design.
Solid business acumen and understanding of a variety of functional areas within the business.
Ability to integrate the engineering and R&D functions into the overall business strategy Excellent skills in project management, demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decisions, handle multiple priorities and effectively delegate responsibilities to ensure high quality service is delivered on time and within budget.
Excellent leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to supervise and manage others.
Provide leadership, guidance, development, and motivation to staff to achieve superior results and accomplish overall business objectives.
Must be able to provide the right balance of guidance/support and autonomy, based upon employees' level of skills, knowledge, and competence Supports innovation and creative change.
Creates enthusiasm and inspires teamwork and cooperation within organization and with other functions and Legrand entities.
Demonstrated experience in leading new technology efforts from inception to transition to a customer organization, driving program deliverables, identifying, and resolving technical program decisions/issues.
Experience in mechanical, electrical, firmware, mobile app, and cloud design.
Strong desire for continual learning to keep abreast of latest technologies and solutions to help our customers.
