DUTIES:
The Code Compliance Specialist 2 duties will include but are not limited to the following:
o Complete annual fire safety and property maintenance inspections for every building in the custody of the opted-out local governments and under custody of the state. o Review building permit applications and plan reviews. o Inspect construction work being completed under an issued building permit. o Answer questions and provide technical assistance to the opted-out local governments and regulated parties. o Investigate complaints associated with buildings in the custody of the state (within the opted-out local government). o Perform inspections associated with the Division's regulatory responsibility to perform oversight and ensuring that the local governments who are administering and enforcing the Uniform Code are fulfilling their obligation in accordance with the regulations. o Perform inspections associated with the Division's responsibility to manage the disaster and emergency response support statewide.

Salary Range:
From $79325 to $100342 Annually

Qualifications:
Based on the results of the canvass of the current eligible list for the Code Compliance Specialist 2 the Department may elect to make a provisional appointment to this position rather than a permanent appointment. If a provisional appointment is made, the appointed candidate will be required to compete in the next holding of the Code Compliance Specialist 2 exam and be reachable for appointment from the newly established eligible list. The minimum qualifications for Provisional appointment are:
You must have an active an active certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR, Part 434, or Part 1208 AND:
Either 1. seven years of full-time qualifying experience as described below, which must include one year of supervision of subordinate staff; Or 2. an associate degree in architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology/management, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering AND five years of full-time qualifying experience as described below, which must include one year of supervision of subordinate staff; Or 3. a bachelor's or higher degree in architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology/management, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering AND three years of full-time qualifying experience as described below, which must include one year of supervision of subordinate staff. Degrees in other fields will NOT be substituted in lieu of the specific specialized degrees listed above. Qualifying
Experience:
Experience in any combination of:
Either 1. the enforcement, inspection, development, or teaching of building codes or fire codes; Or 2. the design of buildings in a position such as a specifications writer, draftsperson, architect, or engineer. NON-QUALIFYING
Experience:
Experience performing design, construction, or inspection of bridges and/or highways; labor law, wage or health and safety inspections/investigations not primarily related to building codes or fire codes; experience as a firefighter where responsibilities do not include conducting fire code or building code inspections as a primary assignment; and clerical or support duties associated with fire or building code inspections are NOT considered qualifying experience 55 B/C
Qualifications:
Current permanent non-competitive state employees certified eligible for the 55 B/C program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55 B/C of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. To be considered, you must provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response. You must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
