Assistant Director State Fair

This position is responsible for assisting the Director, State Fair in the oversight and management of administrative and operational aspects of events and programs held on the State Fairgrounds property in Syracuse. The incumbent will provide oversight to coordinating both fair and non-fair time events, the solicitation of new business opportunities, in the administration of concessions and exhibition agreements, in soliciting and retaining corporate sponsorship opportunities and in the development of agricultural and livestock activities and events that promote New York State agriculture. Additionally, the incumbent will serve as the Director's liaison to the State Fair Advisory Board. Additional responsibilities and duties are as follows:
o Assisting in overseeing all phases of administrative operations and management by planning, developing, and directly implementing policy for efficient and effective operations of the Division; o Develops, recommends, and administers policies and procedures associated with conducting the annual State Fair, the usage of the State Fairgrounds and facilities, events operations and solicitation of business and sponsorship; o Evaluates proposed events or programs to determine productivity, feasibility and ensuring projects fall within the capabilities of the State Fair and prepares recommendations for the Director; o Determines the staffing needs, conducts performance evaluations of Division staff, and recommends personnel actions to the Director; o Oversees the continued fiscal health of State Fair operations and revenue growth by working with the Division of Fiscal Management and ensuring program managers continue efforts to generate revenue from events admissions, rentals, sponsorship, and concessions fees; o Assists in financial planning by gathering and calculating financial data necessary for the budget, in monitoring the revenues and expenditures and by implementing financial controls; o Provides general direction, supervision and oversight to staff and coordinates the work activities of the operating units of the Division of State Fair, which are responsible for the events, concessions, sales, and agriculture; o Provides guidance and technical assistance to program managers to resolve operations problems and improve productivity and efficiency; o Reviews and develops the events master plan, which includes the evaluation of proposals for events and programs and the scheduling and booking of events and programs to be held on the fairgrounds; o Oversees and ensures that sufficient concession and exhibit vendors are solicited, contracted, and credentialed for designated events and programs; o Oversees and directs sales, marketing, promotion, and solicitation of corporate sponsorships; o Monitors and reviews proposed agricultural plan for programs that will promote New York State agriculture and oversees the execution of agricultural programs and livestock related activities and events held at the Great New York State Fair Expo Center; o Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required.

Salary Range:
From $101403 to $128142 Annually

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and six years of experience working with conventions; trade shows; major fairs; expositions; convention centers; entertainment facilities; sports arenas and/or performing arts venues in the areas of fair management, equine/livestock exhibitions, event/ logistics planning, event promotions, oversight of facility use or concessions management. Substitutions:
four years of specialized experience or associate's degree and two years of specialized experience may substitute for bachelor's degree; J.D. or master's degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
