The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 1 will provide technical assistance to local agencies on nutrition, breastfeeding, outreach, NYWIC (the program's information system), and Central Office initiatives. The PHN 1 will use email, phone consultation, and on-site visits to monitor local agency progress in meeting federal and state regulations, and achieving annual goals and objectives through the Local Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment (LACASA) process. The PHN 1 will serve as a regional contact for food, nutrition, breastfeeding, outreach, and health information and resources; participate in program planning, meetings, and workgroups related to the WIC program; analyze metrics to prepare reports; participate in developing regional program goals/objectives; develop nutrition/health information forms and documents; review and approve local agency policy, and work with Central Office to revise nutrition policies.

Salary Range:
From $73863 to $93519 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Permanent Transfer Candidates:
Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below. Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):
A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. AND B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics. Substitution:
A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience. Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have experience working in a multi-faceted public health nutrition program, and will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of maternal, infant, and child nutrition is also desired. The preferred candidate will have experience with computer-based software packages such as Microsoft Office and Outlook; will possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team; and will be able to manage multiple priorities at one time.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
